DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIP SKILLS TO SUCCEED

Healthy Relationships Are Important

As humans, the relationships we form with other people are vital to our mental and emotional well-being, and really, our survival… A positive relationship can be shared between any two people who love, support, encourage and help each other practically as well as emotionally. Healthy relationships are a vital component of health and well-being. There is compelling evidence that strong relationships contribute to a long, healthy, and happy life. Conversely, the health risks of being alone or isolated in one’s life are comparable to the risks associated with cigarette smoking, blood pressure, and obesity.

ARE WE LOSING THE COMMUNICATION WAR?

We live in the communication age and have reached a point where we can see the full impact modern communication has on human development. The Internet, politics, Hollywood, digital technologies, education, computer games, and the media have dramatically changed the way we communicate. Research shows that this transformation pushed more people into isolation and alienation. Face-to-face interactions decreased and social media platforms became the new outlets for cyberbullying, moral corruption, Internet pornography, physical inactivity, increased violence, and political polarization. Our brains are in overdrive and cannot keep up with the never-ending flood of information. Social platforms like Facebook and Twitter gave us a false sense of connection and took a heavy toll on meaningful relationships.
