PERFORMANCE PROMPTER
The Performance Prompter is an Augmented Reality (AR) system. It provides instant feedback to the role players during the role-play exercise. The Performance Prompter has opened new dimensions in behavior training, revolutionizing role-play exercises. Solving the problems inherent in the traditional role-play exercise has proved to be a major breakthrough in behavior training. This dramatic new approach raised the effectiveness of role-playing to unexpected heights.
At the heart of the Performance Prompter is a specifically designed set of feedback symbols. These symbols are used to provide positive and corrective feedback during the actual role-play exercise. The symbols are presented in an unobtrusive manner through Augmented Reality Smart Glasses, not affecting the natural flow of the role play. Any pair of smart glasses will work as long as they are compatible with an iPad or Android tablet that can run the Performance Prompter program and display still images on the screen of the smart glasses.
Using symbols as visual guidance can benefit role players and can significantly improve outcomes of role-playing. We all know role-playing brings theory to life but trainers often struggle to convince participants to accept role-playing and acting in front of a group of peers. FROM ART CRITIC TO BEHAVIOR SHAPER
Many trainers can be compared to an art critic. They comment on a finished picture. Their comments, however interesting, cannot change the picture. The only way an artist can be influenced by the critic is to recall the critic’s comments or suggestions while creating the next picture. The Performance Prompter releases the trainers from the role of art critics and allows them to become involved in the behavior shaping process. This involvement allows the trainers to shape behavior as it happens. Behavior shaping is not a method for treating inappropriate behavior; it is a method for optimizing behavior. Shaping is used during role-playing to build the desired behavior in steps and reward those behaviors that come progressively closer to the one a trainer and the participants have selected as the final goal.
